An incense stand made from volcanic stone from Mt. Asama, pierced with a small hole. Designed to let ash settle directly onto the stone, it invites you to observe how each trace of incense subtly alters its surface over time—an unfinished object with no final form.
“still” series / stand
“still” series is an ongoing attempt to gently reopen the relationship between stone and its surroundings through minimal intervention—an open-ended still life that embraces change while remaining a stone. In “stand”, a small hole is made to insert incense and light a flame. Through layers of fire, ash, and the passing of time, a quiet relationship with the stone gradually unfolds.
